The immigration portal provides a dedicated electronic route for domestic agencies and organizations to invite or sponsor foreigners for entry into Vietnam.

Vietnam's nationality law says foreign citizens and stateless persons who are permanent residents in Vietnam may naturalize if they meet the listed legal-capacity, compliance, Vietnamese-language, 5-year permanent-residence, and livelihood requirements. The law also says applicants generally must renounce foreign nationality unless an exception applies.

The immigration portal says Vietnamese residents and qualifying foreign residents may sponsor specified foreign relatives to enter Vietnam for family visits. The page also says foreigners holding temporary residence cards may sponsor a spouse and children under 18 to stay during the card validity if the inviting organization agrees.

Vietnam's immigration law allows permanent residence for qualifying contributors, certain scientists and experts, foreigners sponsored by Vietnamese citizen close relatives, and certain long-term stateless residents. The law also says family-sponsored applicants must have lived in Vietnam continuously for at least 3 years and permanent-residence applicants must have lawful accommodation and stable income.

Vietnam's immigration law allows temporary residence cards for qualifying foreigners already in Vietnam under listed visa categories, and the 2025 amendment text expressly includes LV1, LV2, LS, ĐT1, ĐT2, ĐT3, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LĐ1, LĐ2, TT, UĐ1, and UĐ2. The same amendment says ĐT1, UĐ1, and UĐ2 cards may be valid for up to 10 years.

• Limited work rights

Decree 152/2020/ND-CP governs foreign workers in Vietnam. The official legal text says work permits are issued for no more than 2 years and may be extended once for up to 2 more years.
